Lebanon is Finally on the Map

Dear Lebanon

You finally made it on google earth. Although it is not perfect yet, higher definition satellite and arial imagery is now available for you on google earth.
I have an exam tomorrow at 9:00 am and it is already late (1:30 am), but I just couldn't help myself locating the places where I grew up and spent the first 25 years of my life.

Anyway, I should get my ass to bed now, but first I would like to say that I am coming back for vacation in 10 days, so get ready for some new posts.

Meanwhile, I found this weird image of the Zouk area, where some water (I hope not chemicals) is being dropped in the sea and causing a strange pattern in the water all the way to Samaya and Solemar in Kaslik. Have a look below !!!

Explosion in Ashrafieh

(Updated)

2nd of June 2005

A bomb targeting An-Nahar columnist Samir Kassir killed him instantly.
The explosion took place around 11:00 am Beirut Time.
He was in his car in Ashrafieh, a christian town of Beirut.

Later in the evening, Mr. Marcel Ghanem dedicated the episode of his talk show "Kalam El Nass" (Peoples's discussions) to commemorate the martyr of the press.
The show's guests were politicians, journalists and most importantly some of Mr. Kassir's students.
As the show progressed, the students started to give their testimonies of their beloved teacher, which was more like a mentor and a friend for them.
All four students expressed their admiration for their martyr, and their shock and disgust over the use of his martyrdom for electoral and political reasons by politicians.
Rather then mourning the martyr, the so-called opposition decided to benefit from the sad event to promote its political agenda through their speeches and the clearly biased media.

HIV, AIDS and Lebanon

Dear Lebanon, looks like there is some hope for you after all.

While driving on the Dora highway yesterday, I noticed an interesting advertisement on Forum De Beyrouth's unipole. It is for a concert called "AIDS UNCENSORED", featuring Blend, Aks'ser and Seven Spirits.

Proceeds from this event will go to the HIV/AIDS fund at AUBMC and Hotel-Dieu.
Yes dear Lebanon, it's a fundraiser for a good cause. Tickets are for 12.000 L.L and will be sold at the Forum De Beyrouth, so try to make it there and encourage the Lebanese youth in achieving what others failed to do.

I will be there tonight to take some pictures and I will post them tomorrow hopefully.

Date is tonight, December 1st, 2004
Time is 8:30 pm
Place is Forum De Beyrouth

Quantity over quality

Okay, no story today since there is an important event taking place:

  1. Government and Syria’s allies called for a "1 million person" demonstration.
  2. Lebanon’s capital Beirut will be the place.
  3. Lebanon’s population is around 4 million persons, so one fourth of the population is what the government is expecting to see.
I hope there will be some Lebanese flags to remind us that it is actually a Lebanese demonstration…

For those who forgot what it looks like ...

Wet Wet Wet and Motorcycles Cemetery

Dear Lebanon, looks like another storm has started last night. Again, I try to do my best not splashing/wetting people walking on the sides of the river (oops I meant road).

Well, I have some photos (in the bottom) to show you today, and since a photo is worth a thousand words, I won't comment on them... But I bet you will laugh and email them to your friends. They will probably be emailed all over the world, and one day someone will send them back to me.

Emails forwarding...That's something good to talk about.
How often did you receive the same messages and pictures from different people?

Even better, how often did someone email you images you originally sent?
In order to analyze this issue, I will do some tests with my photos...
And of course dear Lebanon, I'll keep you updated with the results.

See you Next time Lebanon !
